Tourism and Economic Development Board (TEDB)
Ordinance:
Tourist Development Tax Ordinance No. 96-071 amending Resolution Nos. 86-417, 87-134 and 87-440
Purpose: Created by Ordinance No. 2004-031 and amended by Ordinance 2004-032 and 2004-058, the TEDB is established to replace the former Sarasota County Economic Development Board (EDB) with a single entity that can provide strategic direction to arts, tourism and economic development activities. The Tourism and Economic Development Board (TEDB) will contain the full membership of the Tourist Development Council (TDC) and an equal number of members representing economic development interests, along with an at-large community representative. This new public sector advisory board will:
- Coordinate public resources for economic development, tourism and arts, and seek opportunities to leverage additional private sector funding.
- Identify policies that promote collaboration among economic development, tourism and arts.
- Articulate desired outcomes from expenditure of economic and tourism development funds so contracted implementing agencies can produce desired results.
- Address business climate issues related to both economic and tourist development efforts.
- Lead joint tourism and economic efforts (e.g. Conference Center).
Requirements: Individual shall be a resident and elector of Sarasota County and the at-large member shall have a demonstrated interest in community affairs.
Term: Four year terms (concurrent TDC member terms) with the exception of municipal officers who are appointed annually.
Meetings: The TEDB shall meet at such times and places as the chair, or designee, deems appropriate in order to fulfill the mission and duties of the TEDB as assigned by the board, provided, however the TEDB shall meet at least quarterly.
