Gene Leedy was born in February of 1928 in West Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Florida, then was employed by Ralph and William Zimmerman and Paul Rudolph in Sarasota. After receiving his architectural registration in 1952, Leedy served in the U.S. Air Force. Leedy founded his own firm in Sarasota in 1954, but soon moved his office to Winter Haven, Florida. Leedy designed such projects as the Brentwood Elementary School in Sarasota with William Rupp. Leedy is also known for the Dorman Residence and City Hall in Winter Haven, the First National Bank of Cape Canaveral, and the Florida Tile Industries Building project in Lakeland. Characteristics of Leedy's work include his successful pre-cast concrete T roof systems and extensive cantilevered balconies. He was made a Fellow by the American Institute of Architects and received the AIA Florida/Caribbean Medal of Honor.
Leedy continues his practice in Winter Haven today.
